Growing up in the Steenberg/Retreat area, the social economic status surrounding this community and the various informal settlements surrounding these two areas weighed heavily on my heart and propelled me to address the high rate of unemployment within these communities, hence the establishment of Sivuyile Maintenance Services in 2004. Findings indicated that the majority of unemployed people within this community were semi-skilled or unskilled. My focus was to find labour intensive work that would allow both the semi-skilled and unskilled individual to become employable, thus actively catering to the needs of many people from these impoverished areas by building their capacity as well as to drive and sustain local development processes through social upliftment programmes which includes:-
